Uttarkashi Flood Victims Need Your Urgent Help

On August 5, 2025, a devastating cloudburst descended upon Dharali village in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, near the sacred pilgrimage site of Gangotri. In a matter of seconds, a wall of water, mud, and debris roared down the mountainside, obliterating everything in its path. Homes, hotels, and livelihoods were swept away, leaving a trail of destruction that has shocked the nation.

The aftermath is heartbreaking. At least 5 people have lost their lives, and 15 are still missing, feared to be buried under the rubble or carried away by the powerful floodwaters. The Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has personally visited the site to assess the damage, and a massive rescue and relief operation is underway.

The floods hit hotels and residential buildings in Dharali town, situated 8,600 feet above sea level, where video footage recorded by residents showed giant waves of water gushing through the area and swallowing everything in their way, including people and homes.

However, the challenges are immense. Relentless rainfall and damaged infrastructure, including blocked roads and broken bridges, are severely hampering rescue efforts. Several villages remain completely cut off, isolated from any help. Survivors, left with nothing but the clothes on their backs, are in a state of profound shock and despair. As one victim lamented, "We have nothing left. Only hope that someone will help."

The immediate needs on the ground are critical. Displaced families urgently require:

• Fresh meals for displaced families
• Shelter kits: Heavy-duty tarpaulins, umbrellas, and blankets are essential to protect them from the ongoing rain and cold nights.
• Safe drinking water and hygiene supplies to prevent the spread of disease.
• Emergency medical care for the injured and trauma support for survivors.
• Solar lights: With the power grid down, solar-powered lamps and lights are crucial for providing visibility and safety in temporary camps, especially at night.
